This evening the first version of the book went off to our proofreader to be buffed and polished ready to send to our publisher at the end of the month.
We had nearly 100 people receive sample packs of the content last month, and about half of them provided us with feedback that has been wonderfully helpful.
In particular it allowed us to hone the pages (each now begins with a question, rather than a passive title) and the associated web content which will be worked on once we have finalised the copy for printing.
Putting things out there is stressful. The fear is that, after 18 months, someone (or even lots of people) will think the whole thing is pointless. It’s such a relief that that hasn’t happened (and we’ve had lots of feedback from people who neither Nick or I know).
There’s a bit of work still to do. Typesetting, thinking about packaging, getting the web content all ready, writing some more interactive exhibits to accompany the stories, thinking about PR and publicity, planning a launch, writing a compelling talk to tell the story of the book. Actually, there’s loads to do. If you have any suggestions on any of those, please do share!
But we have got to the point where the substantive piece of writing is now completed. We have come to a pause. We have done enough.
We can’t wait for you all to read it.
